Arena Chapel Frescoes
Title
Arena Chapel Frescoes
Description
Giorgio Vasari considered Giotto to be the first true Renaissance artist. He dealt mainly with religious subjects, much like most of his contemporaries. Giotto’s frescoes are considered his masterpieces, although he had a prolific amount of other works. Giotto painted in a naturalistic manner, a distinct break from the stiff style of his predecessors. He did not have the technical knowledge of anatomy of the artists who followed him, but he was incredibly skilled at capturing the emotions of his subjects. Giotto was the preeminent artist of the Early Renaissance.
