Assumption of the Virgin
Title
Assumption of the Virgin
Description
Titian developed oil painting in Venice and served a major role mentoring other artistic greats such as El Greco, Veronese, and Tintoretto. He is thought of as one of the greatest Venetian painters of the Renaissance, and his use of color distinguished him from his peers. He was known for his use of “mannerism,” the use of distorted and exaggerated colors and figures. Titian exemplifies the spread of the Renaissance throughout Italy and the artistic workshops and styles that sprang up around major cities and patrons.
